Until someone wishes to play Professor Birch, he shall remain a NPC.
Walking to the Birch Laboratory is something like walking up to an imposing factory, the walls, all of them, are red brick and mortar, and the large cobblestone path leading to the slight valley, has made many trainers before yourself stumble when sneakers and sandals tripped up and stubbed on one of the large, not quite flat rocks. Surrounded by a sturdy wooden fence that stretches out on all sides, the building gives off an impossibly busy and isolated feeling.
The thick metal doors are heavy and hard to push open if alone, but they never seem to be locked. Within the lab, the air is warm, not too much so as to be unpleasant, but almost like being wrapped in a blanket on a chilly day, even if it was hot outside. Bookcases with haphazard arrangements line the walls, capable Pokemon, obviously trained to do such things, follow lab workers about with papers, books, pokeballs, machinery, equipment, even delicate glassware containing undoubtedly priceless contents.
Assistants of all ages and race and color run about almost endlessly, bringing data to and fro, culminating hours upon hours of observation with fact and theory, but that man, tall and large, with a jovial smile upon his bearded face, never seems too busy to lend time to the young trainers that approach him.
For all the activity constantly humming within the lab, the man walks with an oddly calm gait, though his eyes shimmer with a withheld excitement to be busy with his research once again.
"Hello, hello, I'm Professor Birch," he greets with an enthusiastic and booming baritone. A thought can't help but run through one's head at such a voice within such a man. 'It fits him. Really fits.'
With a large smile he continues, "I assume you are a Pokemon Trainer, or at least hope to be?" The burly professor does not even wait for a response, before he walks towards a seemingly calm spot in the nearly chaotic lab. "Well, the selection isn't large, and seeing as how this IS Pewter, we can mostly only get our hands on the abundant ground type Pokemon that reside here. Of course, just because they are common, does not mean I'll be handing them out willy nilly. I like to make sure that the trainers I help are going to treat these Pokemon the way they deserve to be treated."
With a stern look he gestures to the assembled pokeballs and their respective tags with a large hand. "You may choose one, but before that, you must spend a few hours with them, with either myself or one of my many assistants watching and observing. This is not only to make sure we aren't allowing abusive trainers access to infantile Pokemon, but also to attempt to understand how a bond between trainer and Pokemon is first formed."
Chuckling deeply Birch puts his hands in a lab coat that could be used as a blanket for normal sized people, "Oh don't let that scare you, I'm sure you'll do just fine. Go on and choose one, most of them don't bite too hard, and usually aren't venomous so soon after hatching."
The circular incubator, obviously specially designed for pokeballs containing newborn Pokemon, is capable of holding quite a number of Pokemon, but currently all there was were these:
Sandshrew- Mouse Pokemon Type: Ground x1
Cubone- Lonely Pokemon Type: Ground x1
Zubat- Bat Pokemon Type: Poison and Flying x1
