It had been such a long time since she had been in a good roosting spot. And even longer since she had found one with no humans. Yes yes, humans were adorable, but there were times when she didn't want them around. She might loved being adored, but she also liked a bit of time to herself. A bit of time for her to preen her own feathers, for her to roost alone, for her to simply exist alone. When she was allowed time alone, she liked to return to this place. Navel Rock. ...But wait. If she liked to return there, then why did it appear long deserted? Well, it was rather obvious, wasn't it? She never had the time or got the chance.
Ho-Oh pumped her wings twice. Said wings were built well enough that they were able to carry her the short distance over some water-drenched boulders and settled down. She arranged herself on top of a large and sturdy boulder, humming softly all the while. Her talons scraped the rock as she clicked back and forth, her wings both held out fully for better balance. It did not occur to her that doing such a thing might be unwise, seeing as how the weight of her wings would send her plummeting backward into the sea if she made one false move.
Eventually, after blowing all of the potentially uncomfortable things away from herself, she folded her legs and sat down. Her tail feathers too relaxed once she had stopped moving. She softly beat her wings thrice to blow away anything else that could possibly be left. Her long beak opened in a graceful yawn. "Hmm~ Silly humans~ Most of them are such dearies, but I do enjoy a bit of time on my own every now and then." Nodding to herself, she folded her wings to her sides and stuck her then closed beak into said feathers. What was she doing? Preening? ...Naaaaah. She was just scratching.
Pulling away, she wiggled her body a bit and lowered her neck, closing her eyes. "Oooooh. How lonely the life of a goddess can be... Sometimes, I wonder if I will see my very creations more often. Of course, I have gotten glimpses of them over the years, but still..." She then sighed. "Raikou. The poor dear. Probably hurt himself by now. Gotten tangled in a mess of barbed wire or something, I'll bet. And lovely Suicune. Dashing about, curing the ever-so-many lakes and streams and whatnot." She nodded. "And Entei. Better have not been captured by now... I'll have to go and burn down anybody and anything that stands in my babies' ways. ...Hmph."
Ho-Oh lifted her neck up and gazed at the lovely scenery around her. Aside from the cries of Wingull and the sound of the waves crashing against the rocky walls of the island, it was silent. This was not something that she was used to. Nor did it make her comfortable. If anything, it made her slightly restless. "If only. If only there was another to talk to here. If only I could speak to them... My creations... Or even my opposite... Yes. I have not seen or talked to Lugia in years... Not since that wretched day... KYEAAAAAAAH." she spoke, screeching the last bit. "Well! I am not here to worry about the others. I am here for me. Not them. For me. I am alone for now, and that is just fine. Just fine indeed." With that, she settled her neck down and her head rested against her own feathers, almost like a common bird Pokemon. There weren't rules about how to sleep, but one had to keep appearences up, after all.
"Maybe I've got time for a nap..." she muttered, closing her eyes. ooc; nobody better get mad at me for posting twice. >:c

It wasn't often that Raikou actually traveled with his sister. Most of the time she was prancing into the scene to berate him for brewing storms over the same towns over and over again, or tracking him down to remind him about Zapdos, or popping up to tell whatever other deity he was having a chat with that Rai had been a very sweet and generous God back in the day. These few days were an exception, though, since Vesi had nagged him enough about seeing their Mother that he'd relented and let her lead the way out over the ocean. Whatever part of him that was the morphed remainder of the “sweet and generous God” supposed he wanted to see Ho-Oh as well, though the hardened shell protecting that part would never have shown it.
The thunder cat darted to the side, never slowing in his run as he sidestepped a particularly deep patch of water. Say what you will about Raikou's advantages against water, but he hated it. It was all clingy and wet and made his mane crackle like nothing else, which got pretty irritating after a while. Raikou trusted his own abilities enough, though, hence the fact that he had been able to keep pace with his sibling over miles of water. The electricity lying dormant in the air flew into life around the God's body and seemed to solidify under his paws, creating a path that he could safely travel. As he left the path behind him, it would loosen into its harmless state again, though sometimes it would let out a series of snaps before fading away.
This was taking forever. Raikou turned his head to the right, pushing off unnecessarily hard to jump over a few rocks and shooting over it to land several feet beyond them. His thoughts coalesced into a question, which rang out into the consciousness of whatever was around as Raikou released the words. ”Yo, Ves. How much longer? We've been running too long.”
His sibling tilted her head toward him as she stepped lightly over a large boulder that jutted up from the water. A frosty wind rushed along in Suicune's wake, the tiniest crystals of ice swirling up over her cyan flanks before falling back to melt in the warmer ocean. While her brother ran on charged air, Vesi let the sea support her paws. The Goddess blinked for one thoughtful moment, her mind searching ahead for the warm presence that she knew was Ho-Oh, and eventually the bell-like tones of Suicune's thoughts emerged from her mind to form a reply. ”Half a human hour left.” Raikou accepted the use of mortal time with a grunt, skidding around another spot of deep water and slanting his path to the right as he went. Vesi turned with him, the faceted crest on her forehead shimmering as sunlight ran across it. After a moment of silent travel, the water deity voiced a concern that had cropped up several times over their trip. ”You're sure Zapdos is alright, Rai?”
”Ves, he's a spiky electric flying chicken. 'S long as he don't go haunting power plants again he'll be fine.” Raikou snorted and bounded ahead of his sister, tail flickering back and forth with flashes of blue light. Suicune sighed her agreement and continued at her own pace, twin tails curling up around her shoulders to ripple alongside her dark mane.
Navel Rock finally appeared on the horizon, and Raikou growled the news to Vesi before slowing his pace a bit. Vesi made no comment at it, overtaking him without a word and reaching the rock walls first. Hind legs pressed firmly into her path, and with a bound Suicune was airborne. She landed on a jutting crag of rock only to push off again, ascending the outside wall with a quick series of leaps while Raikou followed her course. The Goddess finally crested the wall, and she dropped down onto a water-slick boulder with a light tap of paws. She looked around while her brother descended onto his usual air platform, then made a pleased sound and bounded forward toward the figure settled onto a distant slab of rock. Rai followed, tail whipping back and forth as he caught up to his sister and ran with her toward their creator.
”Mother!” ”Yo.”

Familiar voices... Who were they?
Ho-Oh raised her head up in a slightly drowsy daze. She blinked once or twice, swinging her head around, trying to catch sight of whoever it was that was talking. She yawned, her beak once again opening wide before snapping shut. She did not get to sleep often, so on the off-chance that she actually did get the opportunity, her body would react quickly, taking full advantage of the chance to rest. "Mooooother~?" she cooed, shaking her head, the crests on the top of her head bobbing a bit. "Then... Oh goodness!" With her vision fully clear, she gave a familiar, practiced even, glare at those responsible of her waking, but then dismissed it in a moment. It... It was her children.
She spread her wings out once more and lightly flapped them, but staying grounded all the while. A show of excitement, it seemed. "Ohohoho~" she laughed, swaying from side to side slightly as she spoke. "It's you. ...Both of you~ How delightful~" She nodded, first at Suicune, then at Raikou. "My dears~ How have you all been? I trust that you both have been well?" She tilted her head toward Raikou. "No horrid destruction, I say?"$ Ho-Oh then folded her wings to her side, pausing to pop her old bones. As each wing gave a few hollow sounding cracking sounds, she felt a short twitch or so in her neck. Ho-Oh acted as though she were ignoring what had just happened.
Her general appearance, to those that got the off chance to catch sight of enough of her body, would say that she looked the part of a silly looking and lazy bird. Really, it was rather unbecoming. Or... It would be, but the shapes of her body allowed her to pull off her awkward setting with what could be called grace. If she were to think about it, she would realize that her legs were tightly folded underneath her body, her talons digging into the rock with more of a grip than was probably necessary. Her wings were awkwardly splayed over her close body and their trailing edges settled unevenly over the rocky surroundings. Her eyes were somewhat more dull than usual, carrying a tired look. Not much of one, but it was certainly there. Of course, her feathers were not to be ignored. They had lost quite a bit of shine. Normally, they would hold a bright shine. Truly, her plumage was normally something to be proud of. Perhaps it was the sea that was making her tired. Perhaps the constant flying was finally catching up to her. But none of that mattered. She would take care of it later. Her children were there. Oh, they were there. Finally.
"My lovely darlings..." She paused. "My children. I ask you again. How are you? You both know that a rarely ever get to see you. Not near as much as I would like. Tell me. What has been happening in your lives? Meet any interesting beasts? Huuuumans? Ohoho. How I want to hear~" She was delighted. So delighted. She was speaking to her creations. And for more than just a second. It was lovely. They did not know how happy their respective appearances had made her. She did not expect them to stay long, no. Raikou would soon run off and Suicune would either follow or run off in the opposite direction. That was life. And it was sad. But it could not be helped.
She remained on the top of her rocky perch. Though she might be talking to her children, it did not necessarily mean that she was going to just hop down from a perfectly good sitting place. ...and maybe she just couldn't get up.

Blue paws met worn stone with a light tap as Suicune halted in front of Ho-Oh, enough of a distance away so that she could look up at her creator without putting undue strain on her neck. There was no possibility of the feline regarding their differences in size, of course; she sat primly as she always did, tails falling to curl around her sides and legs, and waited for her brother to catch up. Her eyes flickered over Ho-Oh's appearance in the scant moment before Raikou's arrival, almost a habit by now. Despite the limited time Vesi had to see, or even find, her mother, she had always sat quietly at the great bird's feet (in reality, a good distance away from her feet, but, eh, Mim's not going to bend human phrases for this) and watched the Goddess. Perhaps it was because water was the “quiet one” of the trio, at its best, but she'd been satisfied with soaking in her mother's presence and appearance.
As Ho-Oh flapped her wings once Raikou skidded to a stop next to Vesi, shifting his weight from paw to paw for a few seconds before settling into a position much like his sister's. The electricity that had solidified around him for most of their trip to Navel Rock had fled back to its dormant state, leaving the God stationary on the firm stone below him. He grunted once at Ho-Oh's questions, tail flitting up around his form with a brief crackling sound. The reply, uneasy and not much of a response anyways, was reprimanded lightly by his sister; she gave him a glance and he straightened up, an acceptable answer fished out from his mind and released. ”No, Mother, no destruction in a long time.” ...It wasn't that much of a lie, after all sometimes he could stop hugely destructive forest fires from bursting into existence by incinerating the “dangerous” trees himself.
Vesi blinked at her brother, gaze softening in a thank-you before she turned to reply herself. ”We have been fine. This region is different from our home – I've seen so much more than I thought existed.” Oh, the formality; Raikou suppressed a small snort and added his own thoughts. ”Th'humans are all the same, though; their cities and all, yeah.” Catching Suicune's eye again, he hastily added something about all the civilization he'd passed remaining unharmed.
There was a good quarter of an hour or so spent as the two related various bits of their travels to Ho-Oh; they craved her attention as much as she wanted their company and were happy (yes, Rai, happy) to spend time with her.
Vesi reversed the situation and asked Ho-Oh about herself eventually, as she did every time they met. ”But Mother, how are you? You're always flying – do you rest enough?” Surprisingly enough Raikou tacked his own question onto the end of that without any prompting; apparently his eyes had caught the worn state their mother was in as well. ”Don't overdo it, yeah? 'S all good to ignore duties for a while... But only a while, yeah.” He glanced at Suicune as he finished, only to find her almost grinning at the obscure reference he'd made to the many times she had turned up to hound him back to work.

A ripple acted throughout the large phoenix-like Pokemon's feathers as her very skin twitched.
Inhaling a deep breath, Ho-Oh clicked her beak at Raikou's words. She lifted her gaze from him to the sky as she thought about how to reply to the being of electricity. "In a long time, you say? May I ask how long that is, exactly?" Quickly, she shifted her sight from the clouds and whatnot in the sky to the blue creature in front of her perch.
"Lovely, dear. Simply lovely. It is... good to hear that. I trust that you all are taking proper care of yourselves? ..." A pause. "Wait a minute." She shook her head. "By any chance, have either of you spoken with Entei in a while?" Of course, to the legends, 'a while' about mean, at the very least, months, so her question was a rather vague one. "Anytime that I see you two, I worry about the young one. It's been a while."
She raised one foot and, lowering her head, took a swipe at her crest with it. An odd habit, this was. It was one that had only recently started and it was rather irritating. It was difficult to control and almost sent her pitching into the sea because of all of the weight being thrown to one unsteady leg. What it did for her, even she did not know.
Her body wobbled and she immediately dug her then lowered foot into the rock. Right after making sure that such a movement would not throw her down, she then dug the claws of the other foot in, tightening her grip.
"You have seen much? How much? I see a lot, though I do not remember specific details. A bit saddening, but it is not something that I cannot recover from. After all, if I wish to revisit something or someone, though the latter is rather unlikely, I could just fly there. Easy. Eeeeeeeasy~" She bobbed her head as she spoke. "Hrm... Let me try something..."
Once more, she moved her line of sight skyward before she lifted her wings up and pumped them. Though it was a similar action to before, this time, said action carried a bit more force. Small winds were tossed about as they hit her thickly feathered wings. What she planned to do was hop down and speak to the elemental creatures a bit more directly. But this was not quite as easy as it looked. She glared up at the clouds and stood up, her legs shaking just a bit. "Nygh..." She let out a soft grunt as her body was airborne. A short flight soon followed, one that carried her up and spiraling above the small island before landing back down on the rock, now behind the creatures, but much closer. Folding her wings to her side, she nodded.
"This should be much easier, yes. ...And of course they would still be the same." she answered, giving off a hot huff of air before continuing.
"Humans as a whole might be entertaining little creatures, but I never said that they were the brightest creatures to ever live~"
She chuckled to herself as she closed her eyes, apparently pleased with herself as she listened to their talking. To this place and that... Goodness. They certainly moved around a good bit, yes? But then they asked about her herself.
"Me~? Rest~? Ohohoho~ I simply adore that you both would think enough of me to ask, but I am fine. I get rest, though, I must admit, not as much as I would like. But it does not matter what I like. It is my duty to follow the sun. I have to do it. But no. I shouldn't say that I will 'overdo' it. I'll be sure to light down more often. How is that~?"

Mesprit yawned. Delicately, of course.
After doing her Good Deed of the Century and saving Jirachi from the twisted claws and eyes of the human race, she had soon discovered that the City of Whatever-Or-Maybe-Pewter was really not all that interesting otherwise. They were all fired up about how some human called 'Brock' was taking challenges soon or... something apparently important like that.
Well, Mesprit didn't care.
So she had left Whatever City, hoping to find a more interesting temporary home for herself before she had to leave again for Sinnoh to protect her wonderful lake from the next worldwide catastrophe. Worldwide catastrophes were becoming more and more common as time went on, and you can just bet none of them were all the fault of a Pokémon! Mesprit had went up to the Celestial Screening Room and seen 'em all (except for the Sinnoh one... that still gave her chills). Except for the ones in Arceus' Punishment Dump Treasure Town, they were all caused by people.
Jerks.
Well, Mesprit wasn't feeling the happiest today. She had been woken up early from her wonderful little tree bed, all lined with moss and everything, by a highly irritated Meowth who had cleared it out the previous day to store his new stuff in (the old one had gotten too full). She, of course, persuaded him to share his berry haul for her breakfast and excuse her rude entrance, because how was she to know it was a to-be Meowth hole other than the Meowth-head shape scratched into the inside of the tree?
So she had been all, "Oh, I'm so sorry, let me fix it for you..." and she had went to fix up the moss but not before 'calming him down', and he had been all, "Oh, that's okay. Here, have some of my super-rare Johto Curberries," and she had taken them and been all, "Oh wow, you're so nice, thanks," and then she ate them and then she flew away and lifted her spell once she was out of his reach.
And that is how Mesprit used her feminine charms (she wasn't even really female, but she had 'em anyway) to get free food and board off an unsuspecting extremely kind Meowth.
So now she was above the shining blue ocean, praising Palkia for her good luck. Palkia wasn't responding. He's probably too busy messing around with that Platter of Baked Goods or whatever, she thought. Finally, she arrived somewhere interesting (and not covered with water).
It was an island, apparently covered with rocky peaks on all sides. But that had never stopped a flying Mesprit before, and so she calmly swerved over them to look upon the unsuspecting creatures down below. Her eyes widened in surprise - thank goodness she had said 'creatures', and not 'stupid humans'. Raikou, Suicune, and Ho-oh were down there! She beamed widely and sent a telepathic message their way:
Hey, guys! Mesprit is here!
