" Yeah, train. She'd only just got into Kanto and she was already training. A vacation, for most people, was supposed to be for relaxing, not tiring yourself by training. But, she wasn't most people; no, she was Sapphire and she needed to train in order to be the best. The gym leaders weren't going be that hard to beat, were they..? Who was the first gym leader here, anyways? She didn't know, but that didn't matter, either. All that mattered was that she was going to win if she battled them. That was only obvious, though. The girl glanced down at her two companions and frowned. Even though she was ready to train, they seemed exhausted. Maybe the trip from Hoenn to Kanto had tired them more than she had expected. Well, this stunk. How was she supposed to train without a pokemon to train with? " Tor..." Toro chirped weakly, in an attempt to seem ready for her trainer. It was easy to tell from the sound of her voice, though, that she was too tired to do anything that included moving around rapidly. Sapphire sighed and glanced to her other pokemon, who seemed to be the same way. The metal pokemon sat up, though, and nodded at his trainer. He seemed like he wanted to train, but she didn't want to push her pokemon too hard. She wanted to train badly, but she didn't want her pokemon to end up getting hurt. No, she wasn't that bad. She smiled to let them know that it was okay and that she understood why they were tired. They could tell that she really wanted to train and, honestly, they wanted to just as badly, but it was obvious that they were not in the shape to do so. " Alright, fine," she finally said, " We can rest for a few first." As she was saying this, she plopped down against a tree and stared up at the sky. Resting was boring. She was just too impatient for it. " Aron!" The two pokemon stumbled over quickly so they could both lay on either side of her. Seeing how fast they moved to do this, she thought that they could train if they wanted to, without hurting themselves, but she quickly pushed that thought away. It wasn't true; they probably just wanted to see which one of the two could get the better spot. It was true that the two pokemon were quite competitive when it came to being better than the other. They often competed to see who could be better than the other at various stupid things. Though, when they were training, that attitude could come in handy sometimes. Sighing, Sapphire place her head against the rough tree bark. Normally, this action might be painful for the back of the person's head, but she was used to it. She used to do it all the time when she was out in Hoenn by herself, so there was really no difference for her. Her gaze was brought down from the sky in order to look south, at the thicker forest from which she had come from. That part of Viridian Forest reminded her of things in Hoenn and she smiled at the thought, but then decided that now wasn't the time to be thinking of the past. " So, what now?" She asked her two companions and they grunted. Well, that wasn't a satisfying answer. She had to admit that, even though she loved pokemon greatly and enjoyed being with them, sometimes she wished that she had some human to talk to. Someone who could reply to her. Not that her pokemon didn't reply to her; it's just that she couldn't understand what they were saying, so a nice, human conversation here and there would be decent. If there was even anyone around, that is. She shook her head in an attempt to make those thoughts disappear. Now wasn't the time to daydream. She had to be ready to train as soon as her pokemon were rested and ready to go. She looked back and forth at the two again and groaned. They were asleep. Dammit. How could she train now?[/ul] eeeheeh. fail. i know it. feel free to say so. DDD: ;;

Some distance away from Sapphire's resting spot, there was a Skitty chasing a leaf.
The leaf did not have special properties, nor was it important to the feline in the long run. It was very pretty, though, and the way the wind tossed it along was irresistible. You might not understand, not having the attention span and logic of a Skitty, but that is irrelevant considering this was Mim's only brainwave in quite a while.
Finally the Pokemon caught her leaf, and as she rolled around on the ground hugging it to herself her owner had the chance to catch up and actually breathe again. ”Coco...I know...that running is...good and...healthy and all, but...it's...a...leaf...” The boy fell onto the cool grass at once, arms stretched out in front of him as he flopped onto his stomach with all the liveliness of a Ponyta in a thunderstorm. Ruby had no trouble with running (he'd gotten lots of practice getting away from home), but when your Skitty ran through patches of tall grass for twenty minutes straight things got tiring. It didn't help that Ruby's shoes kept trying to activate, too.
Whirrrr...click. ”No you don't –“ Ruby rolled onto his back quickly, kicking one heel lightly against the ground to switch off the small fans built into the soles of his shoes. He sat up to lock their mechanisms with one hand, not keen on letting them drag him into a tree again, and tugged his hat down with the other (force of habit). He kept an eye on Coco as he moved, and for good reason – the feline had shredded her leaf into bits already and was looking for something else to amuse her. After a few moments of tail-chasing, the pink kitty whirled up to face the new scent carried to her by a meandering breeze. Ruby blanched for a quick moment, reaching up to cinch his backpack's strap tighter against his front. He knew that look; it meant more running. He shifted his weight a bit, trying to scoot closer and make a grab for his Pokemon before she pelted off again, but –
”SKIIIIITT!” There was a BIRD nearby! A bird a bird a bird a bird a bird! Something with feathers and those scratchy bare feet and an amusing way of flapping around! Surely, where there were birds, there was fun to be had! ”Skitty skiiiskitt!”
And Coco was off again.
”Coco – wait – nooooo come back!”
Ruby was off, too.
A minute or so of jumping, skipping, wiggling, hopping, sneaking, bounding, and chasing later, Coco found two other scents mixed in with the bird she had first scented. The strongest of the three seemed the tiniest bit familiar...but who cared about that? It was a human scent and that made it unimportant. The biiiiiird was the main objective! Mewing, the Skitty wormed her way around a low scrap of foliage and bounded out almost into the lap of some human girl. ”Ski-skiiii?!” She scrabbled to stop in midair and land with some amount of the feline dignity Ruby was always telling her to display and failed miserably, crashing with a small 'umph' into Sapphire's lap. Now that she was closer, though, she could identify the human fairly easily – especially now that there were no large frills of clothing to block her nose! Ruby never seemed to get her , though, so the two humans were always squabbling about something. Now that Sapphire had been identified as that-human-female-who-knows-where-to-scratch-me-on-the-head-just-right, Coco was fine with cuddling into her body with a pleased purr before wiggling backwards onto the ground to fix her fur.
”Cocooooo?” Ruby poked his head around a tree, looking vaguely around before spotting the motley group assembled at the foot of the tree right in front of him. ”O-oh, hello!” The awkward moment was fixed, however, by the usual greeting Ruby gave his “rival”.
”What have you been doing – look at your clothes!”

. " Wait, he's he-" Her exclamation was cut off by another voice. A voice she recognized all too well: her rival's. " O-oh, hello?" Normally, she wouldn't be all that excited to hear this voice, but this was her chance. She hadn't been able to train since no one was here, but now she could! ..maybe. If he would. She wouldn't beg him, of course, but she could convince him, maybe? " What have you been doing - look at your clothes!" ..or not. The sight of her almost-ruined clothes probably would make him mad. She should have expected at much. Not commenting yet(which was unusual, since she normally would have as soon as she could have), she pushed the Skitty of her lap gently and stood, not bothering to brush the dirt off her clothes. " I've been trainin', of 'cos!" She nodded as she said this, as if it was something everyone should have known. She was a battle freak and she thought that everyone should have been able to tell that just by seeing her. Apparently not. " An' whaa..?" She looked down at her outfit, grabbing the end of the skirt/short-type thing and pulling on it as she did so. She didn't see anything wrong with the clothes. What could he be talking about? Knowing him, it was probably a crease or wrinkle in the fabric that was causing him to freak out. " Oh, the dirt an' stuff?" She asked, realization finally dawning on her. " Whatta 'bout it? I dun't see anythin' wrong with it.." Of course she wouldn't. She was Sapphire, after all. Dropping that subject, she glanced away from the outfit and looked at him directly. " Now it's mah turn to ask questions!" She nodded furiously. Upon hearing her loud, excited voice, her pokemon fidgeted a bit. That tone obviously meant that she was getting herself into some other mess. Or, at least, that's what it normally meant. " Since ya're here now, ya have to battle me! Now!!" She shouted this with complete confidence. If he said 'no', she'd force him to. Pffft, it's not like he would call the authorities or something to blame her for abuse or something, right? She wouldn't get in trouble. No, they only cared if it was an important person who was getting hurt. But this was Ruby. The sad thing was that she didn't even realize that she hadn't asked a question, after all. More like.. commanded something. [/ul]

Coco mewed indignantly as she was moved, tail flopping back and forth on the ground in an attempt at a display of “anger”. It was comfy in the human's lap, after all, and Coco'd been hoping for a nice scratch on the head, at least. Then again, it had been a while...a looooooong while since the Skitty had been around this scent's girl (girl's scent?) so the human may have forgotten how to get right into the root of that itchy spot Coco always had hiding between her ears. Anyhow, as she was pushed back onto the ground her attention shifted to Sapphire's Torchic. Almost immediately as she hit the dirt, Coco rolled onto her back and toward Toro with a sneaky meow, paws waving quite obviously as she ended up toppled onto her side and facing the bird. ”Skiiii~iitt?” Maybe this familiar and fellow Pokemon could play a bit with her? She seemed rather tired, though.
”I've been trainin', of 'cos!”
Ruby made a face and moved out from behind the tree he'd been looking around, plopping down onto the grass even as Sapphire stood. (He had been running after Coco again, after all. He was tired.) Of course his “rival” had been training – if not training, then something else that was likely to get her clothes dirty. He propped himself up with both palms flat on the ground behind him, eyes flickering quickly over to the Pokemon lying at the tree's base before he caught Sapphire's next few words. Oh, she'd actually noticed the dirt. But –
”Don't – don't see anything wrong with it?” Try as he might Ruby never got used to the offensively casual way Sapphire handled her appearance. One of the Coordinator's hands had come up over the left side of his face, perhaps to protect at least one eye from the way the clothing he'd altered for Sapphire had fallen from grace. At least he wasn't hyperventilating like last time? ”Sapphirrreeee get it in your head – Clothes – and – dirt – do – not – go – together!” How did one even get that much dirt to stay on one's clothing?
Now she raised her voice a familiar notch or two, and Ruby winced. Like how a sudden rigidity in Coco's posture indicated an upcoming chase, when Sapphire started yelling something was bound to happen. ”A 'question'...You never ask, you just dema–“
And demand she did. Ruby let out an exasperated sound, the hand resting loosely over his eye moving up to tug his hat down again. She wanted a battle, that was always the case, but from him?
”No way.”
A clean break. Maybe she'd give up unlike those other times she'd challenged him and actually go off to find some real Trainers? Of course, it was Sapphire. He couldn't really run to the police about some battle maniac on his case, either – knowing his luck it'd be broadcast and he'd have a media trail highlighting his location.

" As soon as the, uh, sounds registered in the small fire-type's head(and ruined the battle it was dreaming about, thank you very much), it blinked it's eyes open and attempted to stand. As it did so, though, it almost was knocked back down by a rather large sneeze that managed to escape from it - this could be considered cute by certain people, but definitely not Sapphire. It's gaze landed on the Skitty then. " Tor?" It questioned, quite confused by why the thing fellow pokemon was here. Knowing Sapphire, she would have probably tried to catch it immediately if it was a wild pokemon, so it probably wasn't one. Upon hearing the chirp, Sapphire glanced over at the two pokemon. Great, her own pokemon was awake(well, one of them, at least), so that meant she had someone to use in a battle, if Toro wasn't as tired as before. " Wells, if I don't train in my clothes, then whatta I s'posed to train in?" This statement was rather straight-forward. If he had wanted the clothes to stay clean... Well, then, he had given the clothes to the wrong person. She could have been in her leaf clothing right now and he wouldn't have to worry about that getting dirty - rather, he might have to worry about other things, though. Like being seen with a girl who was wearing such a thing. " An', naw, I don't see anythin' wrong with it," she said, answering his earlier question. She shook her head at his next uncompleted statement, though. " I do ask sometimes." It was true. When she was around people like her papa and gym leaders and stuff, she did. But not around Ruby. She didn't think she needed to. " No way." She nodded. " Yeah way! Come on!" She urged, still nodding. " Toro and yer Skitty. One on one." She had to wonder why he was worried about his pokemon getting dirty. Seeing the way the Skitty was acting, it was bound to get dirty some way or another, whether they battled or not... [/ul] sorry for the shortness. cx i was being rushed by my parents~ Dx

Coco jumped as the Torchic sneezed – that was loud, for a Pokemon without a nose. The momentary surprise passed, though, and the Skitty rolled onto her feet to shuffle closer to Toro with an inquisitive meow. ”Skit!” She raised a paw and batted lightly at the air between her and Toro's beak, flicking a large ear as she tilted her head. Play with me!
Just as she was going to grab for the bird's tail, though, a scuffing sound reminded her that her tail had been thrashing back and forth at a hyper speed for a few seconds now, and that meant it was scraping at the ground repeatedly, and that meant dirt. Her request for play was instantly withdrawn as the Skitty whirled to somehow end up sitting, tail curling around her body with the movement and one paw coming up to her face. Wherever Coco might have been dirty, no matter where dirt was marring her fur, she'd always lick a paw a few times. Don't ask. It was tradition.
While Coco started getting the tiny bits of dirt only she could feel/see out of her coat, Ruby was trying to deflect the blunt question Sapphire had put forth. ”I don't mean – Wh – If you're going to train at least wash your clothes every so often! Don't just – aaahhh just don't let your clothes get so dirty!” He was not blushing. There was nothing to blush about, after all it was Sapphire and if she wanted to train without her cl – SO ANYWAYS IF SHE JUST KEPT HER CLOTHES CLEAN THERE WOULD BE NO PROBLEM.
You have to wonder how Mim comes up with this kind of stuff.
Ruby pushed himself to his feet as his Pokemon had, standing in one quick moment and swiping at his pants like he always did after sitting. Better to be standing and ready to run again is Sapphire was going to demand a battle. He shook his head firmly in response to the other's nodding, folding his arms just as decisively and closing his eyes. ”Noooooooo way. No. Absolutely not.” He glanced at her Torchic again as she suggested a match against Coco, wondering if the bird's feathers were as glossy as they could have possibly been. Hadn't that Pokemon just been sleeping? ”Besides, she looks tired. You know if you don't get enough sleep you can't look your best?” He leaned forward a bit with the tip, red eyes open again as he bobbed back into a stable position and offered a fifth rejection. ”So no. I don't battle.”

, of course, like a battle or anything, so it would just be considered slight. For now. Ruby's constant nagging was annoying. If she wanted her clothes clean, she would clean them. But, she didn't clean them, so apparently she didn't. Besides, the dirt on her clothes showed that she had been training with her pokemon, thus she wasn't exactly weak and that she wasn't afraid to get down and dirty. Which was a really good thing, in her opinion. " I don't know how," she said bluntly. Really, she had never found the need to clean clothes when she was wearing leaves. If they got too ruined to wear, she would just make new ones, not clean them. Besides, how where you supposed to clean leaves, anyways? If they broke or something, you couldn't just magically fix them by using soap and other girly products. " -..you can't look your best?" Okay, so. She hadn't really been listening to what he had been saying at all. But, then again, why would she? It was just dumb, girly stuff. Nothing to pay attention to. But the last few words of the question had caught her attention. Really, how dense was he? Surely, by now, he should know that she doesn't care about looking her best. She decided to voice her thoughts the next time she spoke. " Why are ya sayin' that stuff? I ain't gonna care 'bout looks or anythin'," she pointed out. She wasn't trying to be rude - okay, well, actually, she was a little bit. But, honestly, she was doing him a favor: she was keeping him from wasting his breath, right? Or, at least, the breath that he hadn't already wasted by telling her this stuff.. Oh, of course he doesn't battle. No, because he's Ruby and all he cares about are pretty little ribbons, supposedly 'beautiful' stuff, and keeping his little, prissy, contest-lovin' pokemon clean. If Ruby was a pokemon, he'd probably be a.. Kirlia or something. Something that can be male, but looks female and acts like it, too, and should probably be a female in general, but isn't because of some freak genetic accident or something. And why does any of this matter at all? ..because Moddy says it does and what Moddy says goes. 'Kay, thanks. " Ya're as borin' as always, I see," she grunted, clearly not amused with his decision. " But, come on. One battle. All ya hafta do is try not'ta lose, which is probably hard for ya, 'sidering how ya are." She was hoping these words would piss Ruby off or something because she had, after all, just insulted him and stuff and girls guys like him were easily offended by those kinds of things, right?[/ul]
